Virtually Lace Up For United Negro College Fund
Let’s get ready to lace up for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). The countdown is on for the 2020 National Virtual Walk for Education with the UNCF. It takes place virtually on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 1 pm (Central Time Zone). Whenever I hear or see anything to do with the UNCF, I immediately think of their universal motto of “A mind is a terrible thing to waste, but a wonderful thing to invest in.” According to UNCF, the motto “proclaims the fundamental imperative for UNCF’s commitment to giving all Americans the opportunity for a college education: the conviction that our young people are our most precious resource.”
Also, I wanted to keep you in the loop that 23 UNCF area offices will be participating. I am super excited that we have an area office in Birmingham, Alabama, that serves all of Alabama and Mississippi. Click here for the Alabama information where they have reminded us that “UNCF has reimagined the Walk, and we’re going virtual! Show your support by donating, participate individually, form, or join a team. Make a difference while practicing social distancing—walk, run, cycle, dance—all in honor of UNCF, our students, and schools.”
According to UNCF, the purpose of the UNCF’s National Virtual Walk for Education is to support their “nationwide initiative to raise the critical funds UNCF needs to fulfill our mission of support to our member HBCUs and to help students pursue their educational endeavors prepared for active participation in society.”
