We are at the beginning of the summer season, and the National Weather Service in Birmingham warns of “increasing heat stress Friday onward.”

The concern is for heat index values to climb above 100 degrees across the region. Hot, humid weather will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for people who lack proper cooling or stay inadequately hydrated.

“Get ready for the hottest weather so far this summer by the weekend and next week with highs well into the 90s,” said Spann.

For West Alabama, overall, the hottest part of the upcoming days ranges between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
