92.9 WTUG will partner with the City of Tuscaloosa to present a socially distanced firework show on the evening of the Fourth of July, officials announced Monday morning.

Because of the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the annual Celebration on the River at the Tuscaloosa Ampitheater has been called off except for the firework display. The Amphitheater itself will be closed to the public, PARA will not host its much-loved Kids' Zone, and the usual performance from the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra has been canceled.

That's where we come in. When the fireworks kick off at 9 p.m. on the Fourth, folks watching the show can tune in to WTUG or any of our other seven Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa radio stations to hear patriotic music to accompany the 20-minute show.

Limited free parking will be available at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater and the Downtown Intermodal Facility parking deck, and spectators are encouraged to enjoy the fireworks from their vehicles or while following the Alabama Department of Public Health's guidelines on social distancing, face-covering and regular hygiene.

In addition to WTUG, the show will air on 95.3 the Bear, Alt 101.7, Tide 100.9, Catfish 100.1, 105.1 the Block, 93.3 Praise and Nick 97.5, so regular listeners don't have to turn the dial away from their favorite Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa station.
