A 21-year-old Tuscaloosa woman has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting on Alberta Parkway today (March 12, 2020).

According to Captain Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, Tuscaloosa Police were called to 2201 Alberta Parkway at approximately 1:15 p.m. after receiving reports of an incident there. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim who had been shot twice. The VCU was then called to the scene to investigate.

"It was found that two women had been involved in an ongoing disagreement and had met, along with associates, at the public parking lot located between the PARA Tennis Center and the Boys and Girls Club.  After engaging in a physical altercation, the two girls were broken up by their friends.  One female, Nitaya Elizabeth Carter, age, 21 returned to her vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and then fired three shots at the victim, striking the victim twice.  No one besides Carter was armed during this encounter and evidence showed that the fight had ended," Kennedy said.

Carter then fled the scene of the crime. She was located by police, charged with attempted murder, and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
