Tuscaloosa County topped $1 billion in visitor spending in 2025, fueled by tourism, sports events, hotels, restaurants, and retail.
More than $1 billion in visitor spending was generated across Tuscaloosa County in 2025, a milestone that underscores tourism’s growing impact as a key economic driver, according to Visit Tuscaloosa. This highlights the increasing impact on the local community economy.

“The milestone comes as Tuscaloosa continues to build momentum through a combination of collegiate athletics, industry, higher education, sports tourism, signature events, culinary experiences, outdoor recreation, and strategic destination marketing efforts that attract visitors from across the region and beyond,” said the press release.
Visitor activity remained strong throughout 2025, accounting for 20% of all spending in Tuscaloosa County, with more than 750,000 overnight visitors and 1.1 million paid accommodation room nights recorded. Accommodation revenue reached a record $136.2 million from hotels and short-term rentals.
