The Townsquare Media Weather Center is giving you plenty of heads up on the potential for strong to severe storms during this mid-week.

Active Weather Areas

We are currently monitoring the potential for a cold front to bring active weather to our area. At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has West Alabama and other counties under a "slight risk" (level 2/5) and has added a "marginal risk" (level 1/5) for areas outside of the slight risk zone.

Timeline

The timing of this system is from “late Wednesday into Thursday,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

Probable Threats

James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist, “The main threat will come from strong thunderstorm winds, but hail is also possible along with a brief, isolated tornado or two.”

Also, Alabama could receive some very beneficial rain, with some counties receiving two inches or more. This could prompt some minor flooding.

To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
