Alabama's restaurants, bars and breweries may reopen with some restrictions Monday, May 11th, as well as the state's gyms, salons, barbershops, tattoo parlors and more.

Governor Kay Ivey announced the news in a Friday morning press conference in which she emphasized that although the COVID-19 coronavirus is still a deadly threat, Alabama's economy must begin to responsibly restart.

Ivey's first Safer-at-Home order was issued last week and was set to expire on May 15th. The new order will supersede that and is set to expire a week later on May 22nd.

In the new order, restaurants, bars and breweries may reopen at 50 percent capacity, with six feet or more between tables and with stricter sanitation rules and guidelines.

Close-contact service providers including barbershops, hair salons, nail salons and tattoo parlors may reopen subject to social distancing and sanitation guidelines.

Athletic facilities including fitness centers and commercial gyms are allowed to reopen, but some athletic facilities that do not allow social distancing will remain forbidden.

Entertainment venues including night clubs, theaters and bowling alleys will remain closed. Schools are still closed, child care facilities must still limit occupancy to 12 children or fewer, and hospitals and nursing homes must still restrict visitation.

The state's one-sheet outlining the new order is below.
