COVID-19 Claims Its First Life in Alabama

The COVID-19 coronavirus claimed its first Alabamian life Wednesday according to new reports from the Jackson County Commission.

In a letter posted on social media, the county commission confirmed that a part-time employee in their courthouse lost their life after contracting the extremely contagious virus.

The employee was not identified by name, and the county commission assured readers that their facility has been fully sanitized, that the employee had no regular contact with the public, and that no other employees are currently symptomatic.

Jackson County is in the far northeast corner of Alabama, next to Huntsville's Madison County, where there were 35 confirmed cases of the virus Wednesday afternoon.
