‘Death Cafe’ Open Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Would you be brave enough to visit Death Cafe? This event is being held Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johns-Ridout's Mortuary's Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham (800 Dennison Ave SW).

What IS Death Cafe? It's an informal get-together during which strangers gather to discuss--you guessed it--death. Here's more from the event's Facebook page:

At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death.

Our objective is 'to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'.

A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.

I think it sounds like a pretty great idea--though the idea of attending Death Cafe at a funeral home does frighten me a little. For more on Death Cafe, check out its website here.
