Alabama Governor Kay Ivey announced the extension and amendment of her safer-at-home order Thursday afternoon, which will allow most businesses in the state to re-open and most activities to resume.

The amended order will go into effect Friday at 5 p.m. and is set to expire on July 3rd.

Entertainment venues, including arcades, movie theaters, bowling alleys and more will be allowed to re-open subject to social distancing guidelines. Atheltic activities, such as children's' sports leagues, may resume under the same guidelines. Child care centers, schools and summer camps may also re-open.

Ivey said people should still stay home if possible, limit exposure to others and practice good sanitation habits, but said it is not feasible for the people of the state to live their lives under government-mandated restrictions indefinitely while we wait for a cure or vaccine for the COIVD-19 coronavirus.

Instead, Ivey passed the onus back to individuals, calling for personal responsibility and accountability from citizens, business owners, educators and more as we all work out how to live in a post-pandemic world.

Ivey also said the state has signed an agreement with Apple and Google to use peoples' cell phones for contact tracing in an effort to limit the spread of the virus after positive cases are confirmed.
