Alabama Lands Four-Star Edge Commit
If you're an opposing coach in college football, you're fearful of how hot Alabama is on the recruiting trail currently. On Wednesday, the Crimson Tide landed a re-commitment from elite five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams.
Alabama continues to ride the hot hand. Alabama has landed another commitment, this one from a star defender from out on the West side of the United States.
Four-star edge rusher Noah Carter was committed to Kalen DeBoer at Washington, and he signed his letter of intent on December 20 to play for the Huskies. That was before legendary Alabama coach Nick Saban retired.
Coach Saban retired, and Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne hired Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer by the end of the week. Per the NCAA, when a coach leaves, the transfer portal window opens for 30 days and recruits can be let out of the letters of intent. Carter was released from his Washington letter of intent shortly after DeBoer took the Alabama job.
Carter visited the Crimson Tide on January 19 and hit the ground running with the relationship he had with Coach DeBoer.
Coach DeBoer lands his fourth commitment as the Crimson Tide head coach in Noah Carter. Carter, a 6-foot-3.5218-pound edge rusher from Centennial High School in Peoria, Arizona, was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class. According to Composite, he was the 22nd edge rusher in the class.
The athletic edge rusher was named the 2023 Arizona Cardinals Defensive Player of the Year. He joins a talented edge room that is looking to replace two starters from a season ago.
Dallas Turner (53 tackles, 10 sacks) and Chris Braswell (42 tackles, 8 sacks) both declared for the NFL draft following the 2023 season.
Alabama's edge depth took a hit with the departures of Turner and Braswell, but it's paved the way for a pair of experienced edge rushers, or some talented, but inexperienced players, to step in and take hold of the position. Quandarrius Robinson, Keanu Koht, Keon Keeley, Yhonzae Pierre, and Qua Russaw will all compete for playing time in new defensive coordinator Kane Wommack's scheme.
Wommack and the experienced leaders on the team will provide valuable insight that should help Carter develop quickly once he arrives in Tuscaloosa.
