Applications Now Open For Stillman’s Upward Bound Program
High school students in West Alabama looking for early college experience, tutoring, and a fun, engaging experience are encouraged to apply for Stillman College's Upward Bound program.
Participants from Aliceville High, Greene County High, Sipsey Valley, Northridge High, Central High, Hillcrest High, Holt High, and Paul Bryant High are already participating in the program surpassing 130 students total.
Harold Ingram Jr has been working with Upward Bound going on 7yrs as the UB Coordinator/ Counselor.
"When students come into the program they gain another family," said Ingram Jr.
"For my seniors we offer them assistance in completing FAFSA, applying to various colleges of their choice, applying for scholarships, and \knowledge of how to avoid loan debt."
Ingram, Jr gets joy out of seeing students grow and become successful with the help of Upward Bound.
"The best part is when you see the students transform and graduate and really express their gratitude for how much Upward Bound really helped them become successful."
Upward Bound is a federally funded program by the Department of Education and Stillman's program serves high school students from low-income families, students who are first generation (neither mom or dad has a 4-year degree), and students with failing grades and/or a documented disability.
Stillman College Upward Bound has one of the oldest and longest active programs in the state of Alabama.
If you'd like to sign your high schooler up for Stillman's Upward Bound program, you're asked to contact Harold Ingram Jr at Hingram@Stillman.edu or call 205-247-8110.
