Preview: Huge Rivalry for Alabama Gymnastics This Week
Alabama athletic teams haven't had much success against the Georgia Bulldogs in 2022. The Crimson Tide gymnastics team hopes to right the ship this week when the Bulldogs come to Coleman Coliseum Friday night.
Alabama is coming off of their best meet since they scored a 197.875 in the SEC Championship meet last season. They tied the SEC Championship score Friday night which is the highest score in Dana Duckworth's reign as head coach.
The vault lineup redeemed themselves against Western Michigan and UNC when they scored four vaults of 9.900 or higher. Senior Shallon Olsen scored a 9.900 for the second week in a row.
Luisa Blanco shined in the all-around scoring a 9.900 on vault, a 9.950 on bars and beam, and a 9.850 on floor.
The Bama gymnastics team will need to be on its A-game against the Georgia gymnastics team. While the Bulldogs' record may be 3-4, they competed against the reigning national championship team, Michigan, and annual top SEC teams in Florida and LSU.
This week's theme for the meet is Power of Pink which the team holds close to their heart.
"Power of Pink is so exciting... It's a place to be able to give back using our sport as a platform for something bigger," Duckworth said.
Pink shakers will be available at the door for fans and students to use. Duckworth and the gymnasts want to see everyone using their shakers and cheering loud for every gymnast.
The meet will start at 6:30 C.T. and will be broadcasted on the SEC Network.
