Mayor Walt Maddox is recommending the city take ownership of six local parks currently managed by the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority to close the gap between the parks the city already maintains and the ones it doesn't.

A handful of local leaders joined a large crowd of nature lovers at the fully renovated Lake Lurleen State Park in Tuscaloosa County as the family favorite getaway reopens after a 15-month closure.

River District Park, a new amenity funded by the Elevate Tuscaloosa tax plan, is open to the public in downtown Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced Friday evening.
