The State Of Alabama Partnering With Walmart To Distribute Vaccine 

Alabamians who want to get vaccinated will soon be able to get the COVID-19 vaccine at Walmart.

Thursday at a news conference, the Alabama State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris announced the state of Alabama had reached an agreement to have Walmart distribute the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to ABC 33/40,  Dr. Harris' full statement on the partnership mentions a federal program that will have the chain pharmacies distribute the vaccine but in the meantime, they'd help Alabama.

"We are very happy to announce that we reached a partnership with Walmart. Walmart pharmacy will begin administering COVID vaccines as well. We have talked to them for some time and we're awaiting the rollout of a federal program that was expected to bring in the chain pharmacies we know that's going to happen at some point. But in the meantime, we've asked them to help with the administration of our vaccine as well. The exact numbers are still being worked out, but we'll have to say so, in public health about, we're in the states that this is go so that we can make sure we get them to those parts of the state that need them the most. And we look forward to working with him when we have very conversations with another large chain pharmacy as well that hopefully, we'll be able to speak about very soon."

Currently, in Alabama,  vaccinations are available for people 75 years or older, first responders, including law enforcement and firefighters, statewide by appointment. Just one day after the ADPH announced they'd make the vaccine available to this population, they received 1.1 million vaccination requests. As it becomes available to more people, we can anticipate the numbers to grow and will need more distributors of the vaccine.
