Three Alabama Players Named to SEC All-Freshman Team
Three Alabama players, Dallas Turner, Kool-Aid McKinstry and JoJo Earle have been named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, announced Thursday.
Turner, a five-star recruit was rated as the No. 1 weakside defensive end and No. 9 player overall. The Florida native has thrust into the starting lineup because of injuries to Christopher Allen and Drew Sanders, and he excelled. Against LSU, Turner tallied five tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks, earning 247Sports True Freshman of the Week honors. He recorded 5.5 sacks and six tackles for loss in Alabama's final five games. Turner was also named to the 247Sports True Freshman All-American Team this week.
"He's done a really nice job for us, as a freshman," said Nick Saban. "He's gained a lot of confidence, a lot of experience. He doesn't make a lot of errors in the game. He's a smart guy. He prepares the right way."
McKinstry, a five-star recruit was rated as the No. 1 cornerback and No. 18 player overall. The state's top recruit played a vital role in a Crimson Tide secondary that battled with injuries all season. McKinstry made his first career start in week two against Mercer, he registered six tackles, one pass breakup and his first career interception.
Late in the season, McKinstry got the starting nod in the Iron Bowl. He registered two tackles, one sack and broke up Auburn's two-point try in the fourth overtime.
Earle, a four-star recruit was rated as the No. 6 wide receiver and No. 47 player overall. He reeled in 12 receptions for 148 yards in 10 games. Earle also returned 14 punts for 95 yards and made the All-Freshman team as a return specialist.
The Texas native suffered a leg injury against New Mexico State, but is expected to be ready to go against Cincinnati on New Year's Eve.
