Tuscaloosa, Alabama Strike Out Suicide Bowling Event Set for October
There has been lots of talk about the different age groups' stress levels, including suicide. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that “during 2020, the proportion of mental health-related emergency department (ED) visits among adolescents aged 12–17 years increased 31% compared with that during 2019.”
It truly breaks my heart that someone would be in so much pain that they would take their own life. My friend circle has made a pact that we can call on each other for support if we ever feel that life is too much. I’m thankful that I have those people, but I recognize that some don’t have anyone. That’s hard.
You can lend a helping hand to help raise awareness about suicide prevention and have some fun while raising funds. Join the Kristen Amerson Youth Foundation at the 3rd Annual Strike Out Suicide Bowling Event at Bowlero Tuscaloosa from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m on October 30, 2021.
According to event leaders, “this popular event raised over $15,000 last year with proceeds going to support suicide prevention training to local educators and students, suicide prevention curriculum, and the distribution of mental health backpacks for students.”
This year, the Strike Out Suicide Bowling Event is encouraging participants to dress in costume. There will be a photo booth provided for fun photos in addition to bowling and refreshments.
I am excited that the Kristen Amerson Youth Foundation provides this fun community event to raise awareness and educate the community about youth suicide prevention. It’s very important to our community. In addition, the Kristen Amerson Youth Foundation (KAYF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the “mission of promoting healthier lives for youth by providing age-appropriate resources for suicide prevention and positive educational experiences.”
Let join together to “Strike Out Suicide.”
