Tuscaloosa SCLC to Commemorate the Death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Tuscaloosa Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference will host an event commemorating the death on Tuesday, April 3.
The theme for MLK50 is Reflecting on the Death, Reviving the dream!
Dr. Robert Smith, Jr., Charles T. Carter Baptist Chair of Divinity at Beeson Divinity School, will be the keynote speaker at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church (128 39th St E). The program will begin at 6pm.
In addition, according to Rev. Tyshawn Gardner, President of the Tuscaloosa Chapter of the SCLC, Dr. Cassandra Blackburn and Mr. Levert Hedgemon with the choirs from Westlawn and University Place will render musical selections.
Everyone is invited out to support our kids, our community, and to remember a life well lived and think about how we can bring his dream to bear on our current issues.
