Citing successful social distancing at the Tuscaloosa RiverWalk and the need for people to go outside to avoid becoming stir-crazy during, the city of Tuscaloosa has announced it will re-open some public parks this weekend during its 24-hours COIVD-19 prevention curfew.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced Friday that citizens will be allowed to use walking trails and green spaces at Sokol, Bowers, Snow Hinton and Palmore parks this weekend, but urged visitors to avoid using playground and other equipment and warned that if social distancing measures are not followed, the parks will close again.

The relaxation of the curfew will only be in place on weekends, and only during daylight hours. All parks in the city will close again at nightfall.
