
Possible Damaging Winds, Heavy Rainfall, Isolated Tornadoes in West Alabama
For today, Friday, May 22, there is a chance for scattered thunderstorms throughout the Townsquare Media Coverage Area.

West Alabama is under a marginal risk according to the Storm Prediction Center. This includes Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.

There is one significant change from the previous forecast: the timing has been moved up; now the threat starts around 9 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m.

There is the potential for brief, isolated tornadoes and damaging winds up to 60 mph,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. Also, there is a concern for heavy rainfall with the incoming system. Some areas could experience flooding with the stronger storms.
Memorial Day Outlook
James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist, said for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend to expect “scattered showers and storms tomorrow and Sunday statewide, but they won't be as numerous as the ones we expect today. Chance of any one spot getting rain both days is 50-60 percent, and most of the showers (but not all) will come from about 2:00 until 10:00 p.m.”
