What does “This too shall pass” even mean?

In times of staring at a bucket of lemons that life has given you, people will often say “this too shall pass.”  And you look at them and then look at your bucket, and think to yourself, how in the heck is this going to pass.  I’ve had that feeling a few times over my life [maybe more than a few]. What does this even mean?  The phrase is credited to the Persian Sufi Poets but there is not one answer.  I believe “this too say pass” is subject to interpretation.  For me, it means that nothing is permanent.  Permanent in the sense that, how I feel right now, might not be that way  in 5 minutes, 5 days, or 5 years.  So, when life hands you lemons, make lemonade and know that “This too shall pass.”– Persian Sufi Poets
