Last night, I took my daughter to visit my grandparents. When I got there, my mom was already there, and my youngest brother came later.  We all departed at the same time. Shortly thereafter, my mom called to inform me of what happened when she stopped by the Neighborhood Walmart on her way home.

She said that she parked and got out of her vehicle to enter the store when a couple of men attempted to approach her to ask for help with their vehicle.  The hood of their car was up, and one man told her that he'd just gotten groceries and came out to a car that wouldn't start as some part had gone out.  Still walking toward the store, my mom said she was sorry and continued to walk.  She said the guy asked, "Can you come here for a minute?" She told him she couldn't and started to walk a bit faster but she noticed he was walking behind her.

Once she got into the store, she told someone inside that there were men outside needing assistance with their car and that they'd tried to lure her to their vehicle.  A man inside the store made his way to the door to check out the scene, and he said that as he was approaching the door to look out, the men jumped into their vehicle and left.

There was apparently no trouble with their vehicle. While their motive is unknown, it is apparent that their plan was sinister.

Let this serve as a reminder that in this day and age, common sense is imperative.  If crime wasn't an issue all year long, it almost goes without saying that people should especially be on guard in the holiday season. I, for one, am always on the go, often alone.  Having this to happen to my mom was very eye-opening.

We all need help from time to time, often in the most inconvenient times and places.  If you find yourself in need of help, go to the nearest business and ask them to call help for you. If someone you don't know needs help, call the police for them, but do not go near them in attempt to let them use your phone.  Your life could change in a matter of seconds.
