
Tornadoes, Damaging Winds, Hail Possible as Storms Approach Alabama
The Townsquare Media Weather Center continues to closely monitor evolving conditions as an active weather pattern takes shape. This includes two distinct weather rounds during this upcoming week.
While the system remains part of a broader, multi-state impact, there have been some slight shifts in information, and we’re tracking those changes for you.
First Round: Early Tuesday Morning

The Storm Prediction Center has portions of Alabama under a “Marginal Risk.”
West Alabama Risk Areas
Bibb: Thunderstorms
Fayette: Marginal Risk
Greene: Thunderstorms
Hale: Thunderstorms
Lamar: Marginal Risk
Perry: Thunderstorms
Pickens: The northern portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk
Sumter: Thunderstorms
Tuscaloosa: Thunderstorms
Walker: A good portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk

The current timing outlook is Tuesday, April 28, starting at Midnight and lasting through 7 a.m.
Possible Threats
- Damaging Winds
- Gusts up to 60 mph
- Large Hail up to a Quarter Size
“The overall severe threat doesn't look especially high due to weakening dynamics and limited instability,” said James Spann, Alabama Weather Network Chief Meteorologist. “The main concern for now seems to be from strong, gusty winds.”

Second Round: Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning
Threat Level
“There is a level 1 to 2 of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday morning across northwestern Central Alabama, along/north of I-20,” said the National Weather Service in Birmingham. Level 1 is “Marginal Risk,” and Level 2 is “Slight Risk.”
West Alabama Risk Areas
Bibb: A portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk
Fayette: The northwestern portion of the county is under a Slight Risk
Greene: A good portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk
Hale: A portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk
Lamar: Slight Risk
Perry: Thunderstorms
Pickens: Marginal Risk
Sumter: A good portion of the county is under a Marginal Risk
Tuscaloosa: Marginal Risk
Walker: Marginal Risk

The current timing outlook is Tuesday, April 28, starting in the evening and lasting through Wednesday, April 29, in the morning.

Spann said, “Instability will be higher for this round, but dynamic support is still questionable.”
