James Spann: “Expect Big Soaking” in Parts of Alabama Thursday

An ice storm to our west will impact Texas, Arkansas, and Tennessee which is causing travel chaos, dangerous road conditions, and power outages. This will system will transition into rain as it makes its way to Alabama.

Wednesday Outlook

James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist said that “temperatures today won't get out of the 40s across North Alabama, but communities near the Gulf Coast will see low 70s.”

Thursday Outlook

You can “expect a big soaking for the northern 2/3 of the state tomorrow and tomorrow night with rain amounts of 1-2 inches,” said Spann.

Most of our coverage area will experience 100% chance of precipitation on Thursday

If you are traveling tomorrow, be sure to stay aware of weather conditions as a “few strong storms are possible there during the afternoon and evening hours; SPC has defined a "marginal risk" (level 1/5) for areas south of a line from Jackson to Evergreen to Ozark,” said Spann.

These storms in South Alabama do have the potential to produce an isolated tornado and gusty winds.
