Make Housework Fun: Matching Socks

I've always enjoyed working in my yard, but doing work INSIDE the house is such a task for me.  I mean, I do it because it needs to be done; but I have to press myself to do the smallest of things other than making my bed and sweeping the floor.

However, this weekend, I found myself doing nothing but housework.  I had the day that parents of growing children dread: I went through ALL of her clothes to decide what to keep, what to give away, what to donate to charity, and what to trash.

This means I also washed all of it in addition to our regular laundry. As much as I hate to do my regular laundry, I now had over 100 pairs of socks to match.  And no, that is not an exaggeration. Ask me how I know.

I had to find a way to make my tasks fun.  I took a basket full of socks, dumped them in the center of the sofa, and sat on one end. I had my daughter to sit at the other end. I then challenged her to see who could find the most matches.  We both got over 50.

I didn't really care about winning the challenge.  I really just wanted her to help me match the socks. She had so much fun that as I finished more loads, she challenged her cousin.  I gave them 60 seconds to see who could match the most socks.  They had fun, and I got help with housework.

I think my next challenge is going to be to see who can get the most dust off the baseboards in their bedroom.  Wish me luck!
