June has arrived, marking the start of meteorological summer, while astronomical summer begins on Sunday, June 21.

Alabama’s daytime highs during June typically range from the mid-80s to the low 90s, with overnight lows in the low 60s to the high 60s. Also, June is often one of the drier months in Alabama.

Let’s see if our averages compare to the current outlook for the Yellowhammer State.

Townsquare Media’s weather partner, The Weather Channel, has released its overall outlook for June, noting “some pretty significant changes.”

The Weather Channel and AG2 Outlook

For most of Alabama, The Weather Channel and AG2 forecast temperatures to be below average, except in the far northern section of the state, where the outlook is slightly above average. For the precipitation outlook, Alabama is veering toward above average, with the West Alabama section likely above average. Also, “The South is expected to be much cooler and wetter than in the previous outlook (issued May 14).”

Viewpoint from the National Weather Service

Now the National Oceanic and Atmospheric AdministrationNational Weather Service shows Alabama in June for the good portion of the state “leaning above average”, with the more southern sector of the state in the “40-50% above normal probability” range, while West Alabama is predicted to be “33-40% above normal.”

Temperatures for Alabama are leaning above normal, with the entire state in the “40-50% above normal probability” range according to the National Weather Service.

What Does This Mean for Alabamians?

As weather conditions develop, this could change the June temperature and rain outlook; it’s shaping up to be maybe not as hot as usual, but it could be wetter than normal.

As for the heat, what feels “hot” is often subjective. One person may find the temperature in the mid-80s comfortable, but others (like me) consider that quite warm.
