The City of Tuscaloosa is temporarily extending some service hours and placing additional dumpsters to meet increased demand as college students return for the fall semester.

Beginning Monday, July 25, Water and Sewer Department customer service phone banks will extend hours to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and will continue through Monday, Aug. 15 or until the demand subsides. Hours on Saturday, July 30 will be from 9 a.m. until noon.

Customers can open a new account, transfer existing service or cancel water service online at http://www.tuscaloosa.com/onlineservices. Existing customers can pay bills and track account history online at http://www.tuscaloosa.com/onlinebills. Students can access a student tab on the City’s homepage http://www.tuscaloosa.com  for student-specific needs.

The Environmental Services Department will place nine open top dumpsters around the City in areas with high college student populations from Friday, July 22 until Monday, Aug. 8.

The dumpsters are issued to assist students and their families in the removal of household waste that accumulates during the move-in, move-out process. Locations for the dumpsters are:
-2nd Avenue at 16th Street
-7th Avenue at 13th Street
-8th Avenue at 11th Street
-9th Avenue (between 12th and 13th Street)
-11th Avenue at 12th Street
-12th Street (behind Tutwiler)
-12th Street at 14th Avenue
-Cloverdale Road
-Thomas Street

These additional dumpsters are strictly for residential use and are not to be used for contractor or business garbage. All debris should be placed inside the containers and not on the ground. Crews will collect bulky items placed outside of residences with City garbage collection services.
